ESI Funding Opportunity - NIAID New Innovator
The annual due date for the NIAID New Innovator Award funding opportunity (DP2 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) PAR-20-259 is October 14, 2022. The DAIDS Scientific Contact is Program Officer Dr. Diane Lawrence (Diane.Lawrence2@nih.gov).
The NIAID DP2 program is designed to support the exceptionally talented early-stage investigators who have creative, original, high-impact research concepts relevant to the NIAID mission and who are ready for or recently completed a transition to an independent faculty position at a U.S.-based institution. The program is open to postdoctoral fellows or newly independent researchers (defined as within the first year of a faculty position or equivalent) who have NIH Early-Stage Investigator status at the time of application; U.S. and non-U.S. citizens are eligible to apply.
Applications are expected to demonstrate insightful research ideas with the potential to produce a major impact, test scientific paradigms, or advance key concepts on broad, important problems in biomedical research of priority to NIAID. Applications proposing unexpected convergence of disciplines, new scientific directions, or use of novel methodologies are encouraged. The application review process will emphasize the individual’s distinct contributions to research, potential to move in new scientific directions particularly as they differ from current postdoctoral training and/or involve novel methodologies and approaches, and the creativity and originality of the proposed research. Preliminary data are not required, and awards will be $300,000 direct costs per year for 5 years for a total of $1.5 million (detailed budget forms are not required).
Interested individuals are encouraged to email Dr. Diane Lawrence directly or the Scientific Contacts at NIAIDDP2@mail.nih.gov for guidance before applying. Additional details may be found in the FAQ page (https://www.niaid.nih.gov/grants-contracts/questions-answers-par-ai-dp2).
